July Newsletter

From The Office of The Chaplain

July 1, 2021

Dear Members and Friends of the Wilberforce University Alumni Association,

I greet you in the joy of the Lord, who is our strength. For more than a year, we have continued to attend vesper service/chapel as many of us did while students at Wilberforce. Who would have believed that decades after attending Wilberforce, we would be able to meet virtually in worship from many different places around our nation and potentially from around the world?

During July and August, we will not hold our monthly vesper services. In July, we will be preparing for our national alumni service on August 6th and 7th. We will resume on September 2, 2021. Please note that our regularly scheduled prayer meetings will continue Thursday evenings.

Wilberforce University, across the years, has produced outstanding preachers and pastors who have made a significant contribution to our nation and around the world, and many of them have their roots in the vesper/ chapel services of Wilberforce University.

I am extending a personal invitation for ministers who are alumni of Wilberforce to bring the word during our vesper services. On the 1st Thursday of each month. If you'd like to accept this invitation, please contact me at: dr.r.morrow@gmail.com with your contact information, and I will respond. If you know someone you would like to recommend preaching for our vesper service, contact me at the above email address with the contact information of the person you are recommending, and I will reach out to them.

We are now preparing for our conference worship, and memorial service on August 7 from 8:30 am - 9:30 am. In preparation for this event, I am asking you to pray for our national conference to be successful.

• Pray for our president, Jim Stafford, the executive board, and committees.

• Pray for the entire Wilberforce University family and their upcoming meeting with Higher Learning Commission.

• Pray for our National Conference Worship service and all the activities of the conference.

Finally, to accommodate the fact that our worship service will be virtual, we would like to create a virtual choir to sing three selections during our worship service.

1. Lift Every Voice and Sing

2. Our Alma Mater

3. And a 3rd song to be announced

We extend an invitation to former choir members of Wilberforce's' concert or gospel choirs and alumni who'd like to sing in this virtual choir. We need twenty voices consisting of sopranos, altos, tenors, and baritone/bass.

If you are interested in singing in our virtual choir, please fill our virtual choir registration form, and we will send you all the music and instruction for participation in the virtual choir. Click this link to register. Please complete the registration form by July 6.

Finally, pray with me that all our efforts as the Wilberforce University Alumni Association will help make a significant difference in the life of Wilberforce University.

Peace and Blessings,

Rev. Dr. Russell M. Morrow, 77

W.U.A.A. Chaplain
